Born to be wild

“Born to be Wild” is the ultimate Harley Davidson song. Whenever any rider fires up one of those big twins, this 1968 Steppenwolf song immediately starts playing on that mental, between-the-ears iPod. Every third or fourth Harley rider even has the title tattooed somewhere on his (or her) hide.

Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Lookin' for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space
I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin' with the wind
And the feelin' that I'm under
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

The legendary motorcycle maker has ioined up with ConAgra Foods Inc., to sell beef jerky and tap into the growing meat-snack business. The two companies made the announcement at the National Association of Convenience Stores trade show. . .it's a product made in 7-11 heaven.

No word if Steppenwolf 's song was playing in the background during the announcement.

And now, even during the quickly approaching long, cold, non-bike-riding winter, you can crack open a cold Bud, tear open a bag of Harley jerky and listen to Steppenwolf's ode to biking while sitting in front of a nice, cozy fireplace. It’s something only an aging baby boomer can truly appreciate.

It's the first time Milwaukee-based Harley-Davidson has lent its name and black-and-orange logo to a food product, said Tom Parsons, general manager in a statement thankfully free of the usual PR BS.

I think I’ll go down to my local Harley dealer and see if she’ll give me a case of jerky if I’ll buy a Fat Boy.

Get my motor runnin’
Headin’ out on the highway
Lookin' for some jerky
Born to be mild
